Barbra Streisand Wrote A Super Catchy Song About Trump
While Barbra Streisand’s newest song sounds like it could be about a lousy boyfriend, the singer has revealed that it’s really a tune about Donald Trump's presidency.
“It could be about a relationship . . . but yes, it is about Donald Trump,” Streisand told Vogue about her newest track “Don’t’ Lie To Me”.
“Why can’t you just tell me the truth,” she sings. “Hard to believe the things you say.”
The song is the first taste of Streisand’s new album Walls -- which is her first LP of mostly original songs since 2005.
The incredible album artwork also features Babs looking like "Frozen" era Madonna trapped at the bottom of a well.
While Streisand had hoped to be a little more ambiguous in expressing her anger with President Trump -- things didn’t exactly go to plan.
"I just went ballistic," she told the Associated Press."I just can't stand what's going on."
“His assault on our democracy, our institutions, our founders -- I think we're in a fight. We're in a war for the soul of America."
Streisand told Vogue that Walls is a collection of her thoughts about the current political climate in the United States.
“It’s about when I’m lying there at night thinking about things,” Streisand says. “I have so many thoughts and feelings about what’s happening to our country.”
The title Walls appears to be a reference to President’s Trump immigration policies -- including his desire to build a wall between the US and Mexico.
But it’s also a plea for compassion towards all immigrants who have made America their home.
“Unless you’re an American Indian, you know, you’re a child or grandchild or great-grandchild of immigrants, even the president,” she told Vogue.
And judging by the first single from the record, it looks like Streisand is going to have a few more statues to add to her trophy room next award season.
Walls is released through Columbia Records/Sony on November 2nd.
