Tame Impala's Kevin Parker Says There'll Be New Music By 2019 Or He'll Be 'Really Disappointed'

"All the instinctual things are there. You know when a bear knows that it’s time to hibernate?"

If you've been holding your breath for a follow-up to Tame Impala's 2015 album Currents, you may be holding on for a little longer.

In a chat with Matt Wilkinson on Beats 1, frontman Kevin Parker said new music was definitely on the way.

"I’m pretty certain now that another Tame Impala album is my main priority," Parker said, adding: "I think now I've felt that calling. It's like a calling from beyond".

"All the instinctual things are there. You know when a bear knows that it’s time to hibernate? When birds fly north or whatever. How do they know? They just feel it."

Parker went on to say that while he loves playing his back catalogue of tracks from albums like Currents and Lonerism, he's ready to to play new music live.

When asked if we'd have new music within the next 12 months, Parker said, "I would very much hope so".

"I'd be really disappointed if we didn’t have something out by then."

Parker's been a busy boy, with the band and ZHU recently sharing the video for "My Life" starring Willow Smith, Parker also featured on Kanye's Ye as well as recording three songs with SZA and Mark Ronson.
