Judi Dench Dons Elf Ears For New Film, Still Looks More Regal Than Us All
We've been given the first look at Dame Judi Dench in the new 'Artemis Fowl' film.
Dench plays Commander Root, a cranky leader of the fairy police force in the Disney film, which is set for release in August 2019.
Her character is decked out in an emerald green cop uniform, a bespoke leather weapon holster, an elegant vintage belt, a slick pair of green goggles attached to an aerodynamic helmet and pointed ears in the photo released by EW.
Not everyone can pull off elf-chic with the same kind of quiet dignity and sophistication that Dench brings to the table every damn time she signs on to a new film.
In this new role, the legendary actress still manages to look as terrifying as she did playing MI5 boss M in the James Bond franchise or as Queen Elizabeth in Shakespeare In Love.
Artemis Fowl is based on the young adult book series written by Eoin Colfer about a 12-year-old criminal mastermind from Ireland. The new film is directed by Kenneth Branagh, who described Dench's process of turning herself into Commander Root.
“When we started to rehearse, she leant forward, and her shoulders stooped and her voice dropped, and then suddenly this gravelly, Churchillian, curmudgeonly figure started to emerge,” Branagh told EW.
Fans of the Artemis series are pretty chuffed that Dench is going to be involved, acting alongside Josh Gad, Hong Chau and Ferdia Shaw.
And we're chuffed that this means we're getting TWO films next year that feature Judi Dench wearing ears. She's also playing Deuteronomy in the next Cats remake and we're taking it as a very good omen for 2019.
