The Grinch Enjoys A Very Australian Coffee, Says Benedict Cumberbatch
Benedict Cumberbatch chatted to The Project about his latest role as the Christmas-stealing Grinch -- and revealed the character's extremely relatable coffee order.
The British actor described the Grinch's regimented morning routine -- which is aided by his extremely helpful dog, Max.
"The Grinch wouldn’t be able to get out of bed without of Max," Cumberbatch told Julia Vogl.
His canine sidekick helps the grumpy Grinch wake up, pick an outfit AND serves as his personal barista to make him an *extremely* Aussie cup of coffee.
A flat white!
"He paints the most detailed, unhappy emoji on the top of the flat white," said Cumberbatch of the drink that reportedly originated in Sydney in the 1980s.
And although New Zealanders say they came up with the unique milk coffee drink first -- we're going to continue to claim the flat white as our own and proudly support our new coffee ambassador, the Grinch!
Sure, he might be a Christmas-stealing grump who's intent on making people miserable but we finally have a prominent cartoon character who's championing the iconic Aussie coffee.
How Benedict Cumberbatch Brought The Grinch To Life
Cumberbatch also chatted about how he nailed the voice of the legendary Dr Seuss character -- which he managed to do without seeing the expressions and actions the animators were working on.
"My brilliant director Scott (Mosier) brought it all to life," he said.
"So when there wasn’t animation to look at, which was most of the time, he would pitch what the thing was going to look like, who else was in it and what we were all doing."
The new 3D animated film also features actors Rashida Jones, Angela Lansbury, Kenan Thompson, and Pharrell Williams -- who serves as the narrator.
The Grinch hits Australian cinemas on November 29.
