Jennifer Aniston Is A Southern Beauty Queen Terror In 'Dumplin' Trailer
Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming feature 'Dumplin'.
The film stars Jennifer Aniston as a woman obsessed with her pageant life and Aussie actor Danielle Macdonald as her rebellious daughter.
The film, based on the book by the same name, sees Macdonald's character Willowdean (who earned the nickname Dumplin' from her mum) protesting her mother's local beauty pageant.
Willowdean isn't just a woman driven to prove a point in the pageant world, she's also obsessed with Dolly Parton. The film features a ton of Dolly classics and also has a few new songs written specifically for the film co-written by Julie Murphy.
The film's director, Anne Fletcher, said she responded to the script based on the novel by Julie Murphy because, "when I was growing up, I had none of these movies telling me, 'It doesn't matter what you look like, you're still perfect the way you are'."
"There's just so many layers to [Dumplin'] that I love," Fletcher continued, "and if this can affect girls and women in a positive way, that will make me so happy."
Macdonald broke onto the scene with 2017's indie film Patti Cake$ where she traded her Aussie accent for a New Jersey one. Now she's travelling south and whipping out her best small-town Texan snarl.
The film is set to hit Netflix on December 7, and it looks like a good one.
