He's adorable, he's feisty and he's gonna shoot lightning out of his butt.

Okay, like everyone else, when we heard there were plans to make a Detective Pikachu movie starring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Detective Pikachu we were DEFINITELY not sold on the idea.

But now, with the first trailer released, we... are.... so keen.

POKÉMON: Detective Pikachu takes place in the world of Pokémon. When private eye Harry Goodman mysteriously disappears, it's up to his son Tim to find out what happens. Pairing up with his dad's partner, Detective Pikachu, Tim heads out on an adventure to find out what happened to his father.

The entire film features humans and Pokémon co-existing, meaning the entire trailer is littered with iconic cameos from the likes of Jigglypuff, Mr Mime and a pack of roaming Bulbasaurs.

Seriously, the reaction to the short trailer has been immense and people can't wait to see their favourite Pokémon on the big screen.

The film is directed by Rob Letterman and features the voice of Ryan Reynolds alongside Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton and Ken Watanabe.

POKÉMON: Detective Pikachu is scheduled to open in cinemas across Australia on May 9, 2019.
