Terry Crews Blasts Comedian D.L. Hughley For Mocking His Sexual Assault Allegation
'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' star Terry Crews has hit out at D.L. Hughley after the comedian joked about sexual assault.
In an interview posted to YouTube in August 2018, Hughley mocked Crews' claims that he was groped by celeb agent Adam Zenit at a Hollywood party in 2016.
"I think it’s hard for me to think that a dude with all those muscles can’t tell an agent to not touch his ass," the comedian and political commentator said.
"I don’t understand. I think that now everybody’s so into this notion that, ‘It happened to me too.' Hey, motherf***er, God gave you muscles so you could say no and mean it."
Crews has now written to Hughley on Twitter -- explaining that he once looked up to the comedian, and had regarded him as a "genius" after seeing him warm up the crowd before a taping of The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.
"But now you are an example of when comedy turns to sarcasm and cynicism," Crews wrote.
"And you find it extremely easy to get jokes at someone else['s] expense. You mock my success, but all I ever did was support you," said Crews.
The actor went on to slam Hughley --along with 50 Cent, Russell Simmons and Tariq Nasheed -- for joking about sexual assault.
"You... have decided my sexual assault was hilarious, whereas there are a whole generation of black women and men who don't think it funny," said Crews.
'ABUSERS PROTECT ABUSERS but they MOCK SURVIVORS as well," he added. "When you see me, keep it moving," he warned.
Hughley doubled down on his comments after interacting with Crews on Twitter, writing, "You saw the video!".
"Sir you said I should have pushed him back, or restrained him and I DID ALL THOSE THINGS...but you act like I didn't. Were you there?" Crews hit back.
The comedian replied: "That's different than slapping the shit outa him."
Crews then questioned Hughley's proposed method for dealing with toxic behaviour.
"Should I slap the sh** out of you?" he asked.
Hughley did not respond directly but posted indirectly about the incident on Instagram, along with hashtags including #isaidwhatisaid and #notakebacks.
