Kathy Griffin Reveals Her Mother Maggie's 'Heartbreaking' Dementia Diagnosis

Kathy Griffin has opened up about her mother Maggie Griffin's battle with dementia.

Speaking over Twitter today, the comedian revealed the devastating news, saying she was still "grappling" with the idea.

"As heartbreaking as this is, I feel the need to share some important info about my mom Maggie. I've always been honest with you all, but this one is really hard," she began, adding that her mother "has rapidly fallen into the throes of dementia."

Over a series of tweets, she said that the formerly sharp-witted Maggie had quickly succumbed to the devastating disease, adding:

"Up until this past couple years she was so sharp she always kept me on my toes. Her mind was so naturally quick, funny, and smart. No one could get anything past her. Watching that slip away so fast has been devastating," she continued.

"(Maggie) only knows my name and I love you. I know many of you know what that reality is like...I'm still grappling with it."

Fans had come to know the quick-witted Maggie from Kathy's show 'My Life on the D-List,' and she quickly became a fan favourite.

"When people tell me they feel like they know my mom, I always respond 'you do!' She never put on a show, she was the show," Griffin wrote, adding that she will cherish the reruns to "look back on and enjoy moments of my mom being herself."

She then shared some sweet video memories of her mother, including Maggie hanging out with Kim Kardashian's kids, North and Saint, adding that Kim had "cheered her up" by bringing the kids to the house.
