Amber Heard’s Deposition Details Alleged Johnny Depp Abuse
Amber Heard describes Johnny Depp's "other personality" in newly obtained legal documents.
The pair split in 2016 following an altercation at their Los Angeles apartment. and now their previously unreleased divorce testimony has been published by the Hollywood Reporter.
The 471-page legal document includes Heard's allegations of abuse against Depp during their 15-month marriage and her assertion that he would assume a different persona at times.
"Johnny and I refer to his other personality, the part of him that is present when he beats me up -- we call that the monster and have called [that] the monster for many years," Heard said during the 2016 deposition.
"I was petrified of the monster," she added.
The deposition includes Heard's description of the events of May 21, 2016, when Los Angeles police officers were called to the couple's LA apartment.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Heard noted that: "Depp threw her phone at her "as hard as he could" and it hit her in the face."
"She claims he then grabbed her by the hair and she screamed for help. She stated that he "broke a lot of glass things that left glass on the floor," and the ground was covered in damaged objects including silver candlesticks and a lamp, among other items."
The lengthy document also includes testimony from Heard's close friend Raquel Pennington and the Los Angeles police responders.
The newly obtained transcripts are of increased interest at the moment, as Depp is in the process of suing The Sun for defamation.
An April 2018 headline from the UK paper read: 'How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film after assault claim?'
Depp has repeatedly denied Heard's claims of abuse, opening up about the allegations in a lengthy GQ interview last year.
“To harm someone you love? As a kind of bully? No, it didn’t, it couldn’t even sound like me," he said.
A hearing between Depp's lawyers and The Sun is set in the UK for February 22.
