Chris Brown May Go To Jail For Owning An Illegal Monkey

We're tired of his monkey business.

Chris Brown has found himself in hot water with the law once again after he was charged with two counts of having a restricted species without a permit, TMZ has reported.

The singer drew criticism after posting a photo of daughter Royalty with a baby Capuchin monkey named Fiji that he brought home in 2017.

When fans expressed concerns for Royalty's safety with the monkey, he claimed the monkey wasn’t for her but was his pet. In response to the public outcry, California Department of Fish and Wildlife later launched an investigation into the matter.

Since the drama unfolded, the 26-year-old has apparently given up the money, however, if he's convicted of the charges, Brown could face up to six months in jail. He’s set to appear in court in February.

It's not the first time a celeb has been in trouble for owning an unlicensed exotic pet -- remember when Justin Bieber brought and later abandoned his pet monkey Mally in Germany back in 2013?

“In Germany, that monkey’s endangered or something…but I had the papers. I even had it written out that he was a circus monkey and he could travel and all that shit. I had all the right papers. Things get twisted,” JB told GQ after the incident.

"Honestly, everyone told me not to bring the monkey. Everybody. Everyone told me not to bring the monkey. I was like ‘It’s gonna be fine, guys!” It was the farthest thing from fine," he added.

The monkey was later re-homed to a zoo in Hodenhagen, however, five years on from the incident, the primate is apparently still having issues in his new home, with a spokesperson from the zoo saying:

“He still has issues speaking the Capuchin language. He still tries to imitate human speech. He sometimes makes weird scratchy sounds which are not typical for Capuchins. That’s why we think he still tries to talk to humans.”

Poor Mally!
