Alicia Silverstone Says Her Son Doesn't Need Medicine Because He's Vegan
Alicia Silverstone has raised eyebrows by claiming her son has never needed to take medicine because of his vegan diet.
The Clueless actress told Page Six that her 7-year-old son, Bear, has "never had to take medicine in his life".
“He can get sniffles and a runny nose but he’s not down, he still goes to school. Two times in his life has he been like ‘Mommy I don’t feel good,’ and it was only for a few hours and he was back running around.”
Silverstone embraced veganism over 20 years ago and said she was initially mocked for adopting the plant-based lifestyle.
“I remember when I would go on David Letterman and go on Jay Leno and they’d be like ‘Vegan?! What’s a vegan?’
"And they would just make a whole fun riff on it because it was like I was an alien, no one was talking about being vegan on television,” she recalled.
Some critics -- including Perez Hilton -- have raised their eyebrows at Silverstone's comments.
"Every kid gets sick!" the blogger wrote. "That's just what happens with kids."
Silverstone caused mild controversy in 2012 when she uploaded a video to her wellness blog -- The Kind Life -- that showed her pre-chewing Bear's food and then passing it from her mouth to his.
"I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup from my mouth to his. It’s his favourite …and mine," she wrote in her blog. "He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating."
