Pete Davidson Addresses Breakup On SNL After Ariana Grande Releases 'Thank U, Next'

The comedian wasn't laughing when he directly addressed his ex during a segement on 'Saturday Night Live'.

Joining the desk for 'Weekend Update', Davidson finished up his appearance by  saying to the audience, "I know some of you are curious about the breakup but the truth is, it's nobody's business and sometimes things just don't work out and that's okay."

The 24-year-old continued, describing his ex-fiance Grande as a "wonderful, strong person" adding, "I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world."

Finishing up the segment Davidson then urged viewers to go vote on Tuesday.

This is just the latest in the very public, messy break-up between the pair who had been dating for months and were even engaged for several weeks.

Earlier in the week, Davidson appeared alongside Jonah Hill and the episode's musical guest Maggie Rogers where he appeared to take a dig at Grande.

Jokingly proposing to Rogers, Davidson laughed that he was "O for three" when it came to failed proposals. Following the release of the clip, Grande fired off a series of tweets in hurt.

In a now-deleted tweet, Grande wrote: "for somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh".

Grande then followed that tweet with what would soon become the title of her latest single.

Releasing the song just minutes before Saturday Night Live kicked off, the song references her past relationships with the likes of Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, the recently deceased Mac Miller and of course Davidson.

In the track, Grande calls herself thankful and grateful for all her exes.

As the audience applauded him off, Davidson shrugged while admitting, "It's still a great song though".

Meanwhile, Davidson sparked NEW controversy while mocking a GOP candidate who lost his eye in the war.

"You may be surprised to hear he's a congressional candidate in Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie," Davidson joked about Republican candidate Dan Crenshaw who lost his eye while serving in Afghanistan in 2012.

"I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever. Whatever," Davidson added. Crenshaw responded on Twitter.

The National Republican Congressional Committee meanwhile demanded an apology from both Davidson and Saturday Night Live, releasing a statement that said, "Getting dumped by your pop star girlfriend is no excuse for lashing out at a decorated war hero who lost his eye serving our country."

After his dig at Crenshaw, Davidson also poked fun at himself who recently -- following the breakup -- dyed his hair a shade of 'mid-life crisis blue'.

"I shouldn’t be making fun of how anyone looks, I look like I make vape juice in a bathtub," he joked adding, "I look like a Dr Seuss character went to prison."

Like a biblical pestilence, ravaging the crop right before winter, so too has this relationship and inevitable breakup taken everything we had, leaving us as the husks of the people we once were. Perhaps one day we will return to our lives when we are not forced to work in the content mine, our lungs full of the toxic dust that clouds this relationship. Woe, woe, we beg you dark lord Pete Davidson, release us from this unending torture.

thank u both, next.
