Rosie O’Donnell Confirms Engagement To 'Wonderful Woman' Elizabeth Rooney
Major congrats are in order for Rosie O'Donnell, who has confirmed her engagement to girlfriend Elizabeth Rooney!
The 56-year-old revealed the happy news to PEOPLE on Monday -- but also said that fans shouldn't expect a wedding to take place any time soon.
“This is a long time in the future. We both decided that that would be best,” O’Donnell said at the 15th-anniversary celebration of her organisation, Rosie’s Theater Kids, in New York City.

The actress and the police officer first went public with their romance in November last year, and have since been in a long-distance relationship, as they currently reside in different US cities.
"She lives in Boston now and I live here in New York. It’s been a long-distance thing. It’s been great. I think she’s a wonderful woman,” said O’Donnell, adding, “She’s very much an equal, she’s very much her own person and loves what she does. She’s a pretty unbelievable young woman.”
She also joked about the couple's 23-year age gap, saying:
“I keep telling her I’m too old for her. But she doesn’t seem to care,” she said. “She’s like, ‘I was in the Army! I put my life on the line every day you think I don’t know who I want to date?’ I’m like, ‘Alright I guess that’s true.’ She has a lot of good points.”
She also laughed at the fact that many fans have mistaken her fiancee for her 21-year-old daughter, Chelsea.
"A lot of people say, ‘Oh my god, Chelsea looks so great.’ I’m like, ‘That’s not Chelsea.’ That’s my soon-to-be spouse,” she said. “It’s a little tricky. In the airport people say, ‘Rosie, can I have a picture of you and your daughter?’ She doesn’t seem to think it’s an issue at all. Nobody ever does, but I do sometimes. I was already on Star Search by the time you were born.”
It will be Rosie's third marriage, as she was previously married to Michelle Rounds, who died of apparent suicide in September last at age 46. They shared a five-year-old daughter, Dakota.
At the time of Michelle's death, Rosie released a statement saying, "I am saddened to hear about this terrible tragedy. Mental illness is a very serious issue affecting many families. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle's family, her wife and their child."
Rosie also has four other children with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell -- sons Parker, 23, Blake, 18, and daughter Vivienne, 15, as well as 21-year-old estranged daughter Chelsea.
