Chris Martin Helped Restore Order At NYC Festival After Reports Of Active Shooter

Chris Martin calmed down thousands of panicked festival goers in New York City after the crowd believed an active shooting was taking place.

Martin -- who is the curator of the Global Citizens Festival -- told the crowd in Central Park that the loud noises that were heard were not gunshots.

“What happened is a barrier I think fell down,” he calmly told the crowd, many of whom had run away from the stage.

“Of course it caused people to be a little frightened… but nobody is trying to hurt anybody,” he said.

“You’re all safe, okay?” he reassured them.

The event was hosted by Deborah Lee Furness and Hugh Jackman, and featured Janelle Monae, Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd and Janet Jackson on the lineup.

“As far as I know, when you guys are all ready, we can all watch Janet Jackson,” Martin said.

He then called over local police chief Kathleen O’Reilly, who told the crowd that there was a barrier collapse and there were “no shots fired”.

Footage of the situation has been uploaded to social media and shows people fleeing the event and calling loved ones.

Attendees have described the moments after the loud noises were heard as “terrifying”.
