Liam Payne Speaks Out On Split With Cheryl Cole: “I’m A Bit Fragile"

The pair called it quits in July this year.

Liam Payne has opened up about his heartbreaking split with baby mama Cheryl Cole that after announcing the sad news back in July.

Speaking on UK’s Big Top 40, the former One Direction singer got real on the strain of having his breakup played out in the public sphere, and how he’s coping after calling it quits with the former Girls Aloud singer.

“I’m a bit fragile at times," he told host Kat Shoob. “No, I’m all right. You know, it’s been okay. Obviously, there’s a lot of stuff I’ve still got to sort out with my life."

"We’ve broken up and then it was like a couple of days or a couple of weeks before we actually like put the announcement out and that’s the bit when it really hits home. It's like breaking up twice. We already did this once, and now I'm going to through all that again. I have to tell people I don't even really know," he said, adding, "It's just a bit weird sometimes."

"I think sometimes people need to remember that behind all those statements and things, there are actually people that are going through the same sort of stuff you go through."

He also added that while he doesn’t mind fans offering words of support following the split, he admitted he found news articles on the break-up “weird.”

"I have to tell like, people I don’t even really know. Not the fans so much because it feels like you’re talking to the magazine or the newspaper or whatever and I have nothing against any of these people but like it is a bit like, weird sometimes," he remarked.

Cheryl and Liam first met in 2009 when the then 14-year-old Liam auditioned for The X Factor, with the pair getting together back in 2016. They also share 17-month old son, Bear, together.

Following the break-up, the 25-year-old has been burying himself in work, with his first solo EP ‘First Time’ being recently released.
