Johnny Depp Sued For Allegedly Punching City Of Lies Location Manager
The crew member alleged Depp berated him and punched him twice after drinking all day on the set.
Johnny Depp is being sued for allegedly assaulting the City of Lies location manager in early 2017.
According to Variety Gregg "Rocky" Brooks sued Depp this week for an incident that occurred on April 13, 2017.
Brooks claims that filming was occurring outside a hotel in downtown Los Angeles and he was asked several times to extend the permit the production had to shoot outside the establishment. After doing so twice, the permit official informed Brooks the production would have to wrap things up around 11pm.
When Brooks informed the 1st AD on the film he was told, "Why don't you tell that to Johnny Depp" with the production knowing the troubled star wouldn't be happy with the time restraints.
When Brooks went to inform Depp the location manager was allegedly met with the 55-year-old shouting, "Who the fuck are you? You have no right to tell me what to do!" punching the man twice in the lower left side of his rib cage.
Depp reportedly continued to insult the man saying, "I don't give a fuck who you are and you can't tell me what to do" as well as allegedly offering the man $100,000 to punch him back.
Brooks claims Depp continued to scream and insult him in front of the production until his own bodyguards had to physically remove him from the set.
In the suit Brooks also alleged that he could smell alcohol on Depp's breath at the time of the altercation and claimed he believed the actor had been drinking and using drugs throughout the day.
According to Brooks, when he returned to film's offices the following Monday, he was asked to sign a declaration stating he wouldn't sue the production -- when he refused he was immediately terminated.
City of Lies is scheduled for release in September and stars Depp as a detective attempting to solve the murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.
In May the film's director Brad Furman responded to the initial claims of an altercation onset with Depp saying, "He always treats the crew and people around him with the utmost respect".
"Movies can be stressful, and nonevents often become exaggerated. We all love stories -- there isn’t one here."
Depp was recently featured in a highly controversial Rolling Stone article where the actor was found drinking a "never-ending reservoir of wine poured into goblets" while smoking "piles of tobacco and hash". The actor also discussed his past drug and stronger substance use including mourning the lack of quaaludes in circulation.
Last month fans of the troubled actor feared for his health when images began circulating of the Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald actor looking sick and gaunt.
Representation for Depp claimed the actor had simply transformed for a role in an upcoming project.
Depp is also currently in a $25 million lawsuit with his former business managers where the actor believes his attorney swindled him out of nearly $35 million -- while his former manager claims the star's extravagant spending is to blame.
