MTV Movie & TV Awards: Chadwick Boseman Gave Best Hero Award To Waffle House Hero

"Receiving an award for playing a superhero is amazing, but it's even greater to acknowledge the heroes that we have in real life."

The 2018 MTV TV and Movie Awards aired on Tuesday, and Marvel's Black Panther was up for a bulk of the awards.

One of the first awards of the night was for Best Hero and unsurprisingly Chadwick Boseman was nominated for his role as T’Challa aka the Black Panther.

Accepting his award, Boseman called out a special guest in the audience, James Shaw Jr.

Thanking his fans, Boseman then added, "Receiving an award for playing a superhero is amazing, but it's even greater to acknowledge the heroes that we have in real life".

"I just want to acknowledge somebody that we have here today, James Shaw Jr... If you don't know James Shaw Jr, he fought off a gunman in  Antioch, Tennessee at a Waffle House. He saved lives."

In April Shaw Jr was at the Waffle House restaurant near Nashville when a gunman opened fire, killing four.

Shaw Jr rushed the shooter and managed to wrestle a semi-automatic rifle away, preventing more casualties.

Boseman brought the 29-year-old onstage handing him his award saying, "This is going to live at your house," as Shaw received a standing ovation.
