Ajay Talks About Her Unlikely Friendship In The Jungle

Ajay Rochester was a superfan of ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ so she never expected to be the first one sent packing.

Catching up with 10 daily just moments after she left the jungle and her celeb campmates behind, Ajay admitted she was pretty devastated to be the first celeb to be voted out. Especially considering she didn’t get the full I’m A Celeb package deal.

Admitting she had watched every episode of both the UK and the Aussie versions of the show, Ajay was ready to be put through her paces in all sorts of trials

“It didn’t live up to expectations,” Ajay told 10 daily about her time in the jungle adding, “in the sense that I didn’t get to do much because Justin did everything.”

“It really was a little like a jungle Club Med/Betty Ford,” she added, laughing. “As a fan you want to do everything, I think that’s the saddest thing. I didn’t get bugs on me, I got to pat one snake which I only just found out about.”

Already formulating a plan to return to the jungle under the pseudonym “Fillipa Flipperflopperlot”, which she explained has a triple F and a silent K, Ajay has set her sights on getting famous in England to go on the UK version of the series. Half joking.

Truly, the fifth season of I’m A Celeb has been dominated by the Aussie public picking former Love Island contestant, model and himbo Justin Lacko to face almost every trial so far.

“I think everyone underestimated Justin, he just looks like a himbo,” Ajay told us before adding, “he is a himbo but he also has a heart of gold.”

“He’s the most selfish person in the world, but then he’ll say something that shows that he cares about someone for five minutes.”

While there was a tinge of jealousy that Justin had to face trials like crawling through tunnels full of creepy crawlies, being plunged into freezing water and eating a variety of horrors, Ajay was quietly chuffed she dodged the food challenges.

“In the back of my mind, I was hoping and praying that I would be the one person that escaped [food trials], so now I am!”

Asked if she had any challenges she wished she could have been part of, Ajay was ready to go up against any creepy crawlies Dr Chris Brown and Lady Julia Morris would have thrown her way, and missing out on the recent challenge where Richard Reid and Yvie Jones fed an elephant broke her heart.

“I would have loved to have done the elephant challenge,” Ajay admitted, “Feeding the elephant, that would have been so good. Yvie’s such a bitch. Of course, she gets the good stuff, it’s not fair.”

Despite her short time in the jungle, it was clear Ajay had made some very strong connections with her campmates. The former Biggest Loser host shared a lot of her struggles and experiences with campmates -- describing herself as an open book -- she became close with some surprising faces.

During her final goodbyes, one campmate’s response shocked Ajay. “It made me really sad when I looked at Jacqui [Lambie] and she cried,” she said.

“It was like the fact that I felt really close to her, the fact that she also felt close enough to me to be sad that I was leaving really touched me,” Ajay explained, “It really touched me. I don’t make friends easily and I just forged a really strong friendship with her.”

“I’ll miss her more than anything. I wish she wasn’t in Tasmania, I wish she was wherever I am in the world.”

Ajay then went on to showcase what can only be described as an eerily perfect impression of Jacqui’s jungle catchphrase: “Yeah baby!”

Ajay said despite there being “a lot of fakeness in camp” she managed to make some solid connections with several of the other celebs including Luke Jacobz, Dermott Brereton and Tahir Bilgic.

“A lot of the celebrities are like, ‘I want to win so I’m going to act like a really nice person’ and every now and then you’ll catch a moment when they sneak a sneaky comment,” Ajay said, “but there’s no one really nasty in the group… yet. They should throw someone in there, they’re all having too much fun right now.”

While she’s a massive fan of Jacqui, Dermott and Luke -- nominating them for her final three -- Ajay wasn’t sure if she would watch much of the show now she’s no longer part of the roster, even wondering if she’d go back and watch her own episodes.

“I have thought about this, I go back and forth between wanting to watch and not wanting to,” Ajay said.

“It’ll hurt too much, it hurts right now but maybe, maybe I’ll tune in to the end.”
