Fundraiser For Fyre Fest Caterers Has Reached Nearly $200,000

The Bahamian caterers swindled by Fyre Fest will finally be getting some compensation.

The recent Netflix documentary FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened exposed the long list of people who were hoodwinked by organiser Billy McFarland, including caterer Maryann Rolle.

The Bahamian woman explained on camera that she led a staff of ten people who worked "all day and all night, 24 hours" in the lead up to, and during, the doomed island music festival in 2017.

"I literally had to pay all those people. I am here as a Bahamian. And they stand in my face everyday," she said during the doco.

Ja Rule and Billy McFarland were the masterminds behind Fyre.

Rolle explained that she was forced to spend nearly $70,000 of her own savings to help cover costs.

"They just wiped it out and never looked back," she said of the festival organisers, who had promised to pay the bill.

Following the airing of the Fyre documentary, Netflix viewers began donating money to Rolle's crowdfunding page that was created on January 14.

"I'm so glad this fundraiser was started. Honest and hardworking people like you are the ones who most deserve a chance in this world," wrote one donor on the GoFundMe page.

"My heart goes out to all of the workers who weren't paid for their hard labour. No one deserves to be treated like that," wrote another Netflix viewer.

The fund has now exceeded its goal and is currently sitting at $141,000 USD (nearly $200,00 AUD).

McFarland is currently serving six years in prison for defrauding investors and festival goers who parted with large sums of cash for the over-hyped festival.

Fyre was co-founded by Ja Rule, who played a large part in promoting the event but the rapper has not been charged for his involvement.

He's now been fielding critcism on Twitter following the airing of two separate docos (on Netflix and Hulu) that he was also swindled in the great Fyre caper.

Ja Rule claims that he had nothing to do with defrauding the Bahamian caterers and had "never even met" Maryann Rolle.
