JJ Abrams 'Sorry' For Making Evangeline Lilly Uncomfortable With Lost Nude Scene

Lilly previously spoke out about her negative experiences in filming the series.

Following actress Evangeline Lilly’s revelation that she was “cornered into” doing a partially naked scene for the hit series Lost, JJ Abrams has today apologised to the Ant-Man and The Wasp star.

In a joint statement with producers Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse, they said:

“Our response to Evie’s comments this morning in the media was to immediately reach out to her to profoundly apologise for the experience she detailed while working on Lost. We have not yet connected with her, but remain deeply and sincerely sorry. No person should ever feel unsafe at work. Period.”

Earlier his week, the 39 year old revealed on The Lost Boys podcast that she was left traumatised after being made to shoot the scene against her wishes.

"In season 3, I'd had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt I had no choice in the matter," she said.

"I was mortified and I was trembling, and when it finished I was crying my eyes out and had to go on and do another very formidable and strong scene immediately after."

She continued: "So in season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control, and I failed to control it again. So, I said, 'That's it - no more... I will never take my clothes off on this show again' -- and I didn't."

Lilly added that she’d hoped for something bigger for her character Kate, rather than focusing on her love triangle with two male characters.

"I did throw scripts across rooms when I’d read them because I would get very frustrated by the diminishing amount of autonomy she had and the diminishing amount of her own story there was to play," she said.

"At the beginning [Kate] was kinda cool, and then as the show went on, she became more and more predictable and obnoxious. I felt like my character went from being anonymous, really having her own story and her own journey and her own agendas, to chasing to men around the island. And that irritated the shit out of me," Evangeline said.

It’s not the first time she’s spoken out on negative experiences while filming the show -- she's previously accused a “misogynistic” stunt coordinator on the show of intentionally causing her injury during filming.

The stunt, which involved rolling off a thick tree branch high above the ground and hanging while harnessed to the branch, left the star with painful wounds on her arm that required a liquid bandage. The coordinator would then send her back up the tree to do reshoot several times over.

“I felt it was him saying, ‘I’m going to put you in your place for standing up to me’,” she said. “It was either cow to his power or hurt myself. I was in my 20s then. Now, I would probably back down.”
