Sorry But 2007 Was The Most Hectic Year In Pop Culture!!!

Smash Mouth weren’t lying when they said the years start coming and they don’t stop coming.

2007 was a batsh*t  crazy year when it came to celebs, and no matter what Kim K, Taylor, or Ari serve up in 2018, the current celeb climate will never be able to compete with '07.

It was the era in which Britney, Paris, Nicole and Lindsay reigned supreme over young Hollywood, while simultaneously making headlines for their wild behaviour.

There were deaths, breakdowns, arrests, and stints in rehab -- basically, it was a full year of celebs unravelling in the public eye to a level we haven’t seen since.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and check out the top celeb stories of 2007 that legit feel like yesterday.

January 2007: Justin Timberlake dumped Cameron Diaz

JT and Cameron were definitely one of the ‘it’ couples of the time, but after three-and-a-half years together, the "Sexy Back" singer dumped the actress just after Christmas.

On January 11th, they confirmed the rumours, releasing a statement saying:

"It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we’ve spent together, we feel compelled to do so now, in light of recent speculation and the number of inaccurate stories that are being reported by the media,” the pair said. “We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another.”

Fast forward to the present day, and JT is now happily married to Jessica Biel, and Cameron to Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden. Happy days.

February 2007: Anna Nicole Smith Died

Anna Nicole Smith’s life was certainly filled with a whole lot of weird, wacky and wonderful moments, but was marred with a tragic end when she died at just 39-years-old.

Famously marrying Texan oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall -- who was 63 years her senior -- before he died 1995, the controversial star went on to sue the family for a share of her former husband’s inheritance, before it was ruled he never intended to include her in his will.

Over a decade later on June 1, 2006, Smith announced her pregnancy in a video on her official website, saying:

"Let me stop all the rumours," she said, while floating on an inflatable raft in a swimming pool. "Yes, I am pregnant. I'm happy, I'm very, very happy about it. Everything's going really, really good and I'll be checking in and out periodically on the web, and I'll let you see me as I'm growing."

Then, just three days after the birth of her daughter Dannielynn on September 7, 2006, her son Daniel died of an accidental overdose while sleeping next to his mum and newborn sister in the hospital.

Tragically, in February 2007, when Dannielynn was just five months old, Anna Nicole was found dead in a hotel room from an accidental overdose.

February 2007: Britney Spears shaved her head

While she’s still very much an icon and very much back on her game, poor Britney Spears had a rough time in 2007. With paps watching her every move following the breakdown of her marriage to Kevin Federline and the loss of custody over her children, Brit snapped -- infamously shaving her hair off as an act of rebellion against her carefully curated public image that had been crafted beyond her control since she burst into the limelight as a teenager.

“I was going through so much artificial stuff with my kids and Kevin at the time. He’d just left me and I was devastated,” she told MTV in an interview for the 2008 documentary For the Record.

"People thought that it was me going crazy and stuff like that, but people shave their heads all the time. I was going through a lot, but it was just kind of like me going through a little bit of rebellion, or feeling free, or shedding stuff that had happened, you know?”

These days, the 36-year-old is doing better than ever, with her lucrative Las Vegas residency credited with reinvigorating the Las Vegas Strip. Brit’s recovery from her turbulent year even inspired the meme “If Britney can make it through 2007, then I can make it through today,” and ain’t that the truth.

June 2007: Paris Hilton went to jail

She was the It girl of the 2000s, so when Paris Hilton was sent to jail for a grand total of 37 days, it was a huge deal.

The saga began after the heiress was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Sept. 27, 2006, while on her way to In-N-Out Burger, and was sentenced to three years' probation, ordered to attend alcohol-education classes and fined $1,500.

BUT, only a month later she was pulled over for speeding and having no headlights on when she wasn't even supposed to be on the road. After being cited for driving with a suspended license, she was sentenced to 45 days in jail -- but thanks to good behaviour and overcrowding she ended up serving just half her time.

"It's a learning experience I'm going to grow from. Just being away from everything…you know, the craziness, the paparazzi,” Paris told Ryan Seacrest in an interview from jail.

"I've had a lot of alone time to think and read and write. Even though it's been horrible and really hard, I think that God makes everything happen for a reason and this is my time to figure out what my purpose is in life. I've really grown from it."

June 2007: Eddie Murphy knocked up Scary Spice and denied being the father

Though he denied it, in June of 2007 a paternity test proved once and for all that comedian Eddie Murphy was the father of Spice Girl Melanie Brown’s daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, after the pair dated briefly in 2006.

Following her birth, Brown told PEOPLE Murphy not only was refusing to take a paternity test at the time, but that he also hadn’t bothered to get in touch since Angel’s birth, saying, “He hasn’t seen his daughter. My people have contacted his people and they just had no response to anything.”

These days, Mel claims Eddie is a part of his daughter’s life, while her ex Stephen Belafonte – who acted as a father figure to Angel during his marriage to the singer -- claimed that Eddie is "not interested" in being present in Angel’s life.

Nicole Richie announced she was pregnant

A year after getting a DUI, Nicole Richie seemingly did a 180 on her wild child lifestyle and shocked the world by announcing she was pregnant with her first child to her Good Charlotte bae, Joel Madden.

By this time, she had famously fallen out with former bestie Paris Hilton after they catapulted to fame in The Simple Life. Instead, Richie focused on being a mum to Harlot Kate Winter Madden, who was born in January 2008.

The couple went on to have son Sparrow James Midnight in 2009, and by 2010 they were married and became wholesome AF.

She catapulted into stardom following her iconic role as Marissa on the hugely popular drama The O.C, but following rumours of rifts with fellow cast members on set, Barton left the how to pursue a film career.

About a year later, she was caught driving while having a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher, driving without a valid license and possession of 28.5 grams or less of marijuana. She was given 36 months probation, alcohol education classes and a fine as part of a plea deal.

"That was a low point for me. I never, ever would have thought I would be arrested," Barton told Nylon magazine.

"I was disappointed because it associated me with a group of girls that I would rather not be associated with. That was the biggest bummer for me—I didn't leave my house. I was too embarrassed. They made such a big deal out of it with these other young actresses, that, for a little bit, I wanted to crawl into a hole and die."
