Fans Take Cardboard Cutout Of Friend To World Cup After Wife Doesn’t Let Him Go
This is what happens when you dog the boys.
When Javier bowed out after a boys trip to the World Cup in Russia because his wife wouldn’t let him go, his mates did the next best thing -- they brought a life-sized cut out of their in his place.
Wearing a blue shirt with "my wife didn't let me" emblazoned across it, the cheeky group have since sparked hilarity across social media with their antics, and frankly cardboard Javier looks like he’s having a bloody good time on the trip.
The five men from Durango, northwest Mexico, began planning the trip of a lifetime back in 2014, saving up money and even buying a bus and spending hours painting it in Mexican colours. However, just days before they planned to leave, Javier dropped the bomb saying that his wife had put her foot down.
Finding the humour in the situation, the quartet – along with cardboard-Javier -- soon booked a ship from Mexico to Spain and drove to Russia, arriving in Moscow on June 14 -- three days before Mexico's first game.
The pack have been documenting their trip in a series of hilarious Facebook posts, which have since gone viral.
The Project’s Carrie saw the wife’s side of things, however, telling the rest her co-hosts, “They have been gone for two months, that's not a boys' trip. That's a new life!” while Peter Helliar chimed in, “They had a way better time with the cut out!”
Catch The Project from Sunday to Friday at 6.30pm on Ten and on Tenplay.
