First Reactions To Solo: A Star Wars Story Are Here
Just how strong IS the Force with this one?
One of the most-talked about films at Cannes Film Festival was Solo: A Star Wars Story.
There was controversy before the film even premiered with French-Lebanese actress Manal Issa holding a sign that read "Stop the attack on Gaza" on the red carpet.
Meanwhile the stars of the film, including Chewbacca, also walked the red carpet ahead of the film's Cannes premiere.
As the embargo on the film broke and reviews began to filter in they definitely ranged. The first tweets that popped up after the film's May 10 Hollywood premiere were mostly positive, praising the film's star Alden Ehrenreich.
There was also high praise for Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian whose swagger apparently stole the show, but at the end of the day the film is also dividing some critics with many calling it "good, not great" and "forgettable".
There were rumours that the next spin-off may focus on Glover's Lando, though it seems that may be down to a miscommunication. However, as the first of the Star Wars spin-offs, Solo will set a precedent for what these films will look like moving forward.
Critics haven't ever necessarily been entirely in-tune with audiences reactions to the films. The last in the Star Wars franchise, The Last Jedi, was so divisive some die-hard fans called it the worst film yet. There was even a fan-edit that removed the prominent female characters and storylines they deemed problematic. It had a 46-minute run time.
For anyone looking for another fan-edit, one clever person has recreated the new film's trailer replacing Ehrenreich's head with that of a young Harrison Ford.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in cinemas on May 24.
