Black Panther Dominates MTV Movie & TV Award Nominations

Wakanda forever!

While Avengers: Infinity Wars thrashes the global box office, Black Panther has grabbed the MTV Movie & TV Award nominations with a Vibranium claw.

The superhero flick scored seven total nominations including Best Movie, Best Hero, Best Villain and Best Performance in a Movie for star Chadwick Boseman.

Netflix's Stranger Things was right behind Black Panther with a solid six nominations including Best Show, Best Performance in a Show and Best On-Screen Team.

While Black Panther may have the most nominations it's not the only Marvel movie representing in the awards this year, with Avengers: Infinity War nominated for three awards including Best Movie, Best Villain and Best Fight despite only being in cinemas for a few weeks.

Last year the MTV Movie & TV Awards made a bold choice to no longer gender their acting categories, meaning "Best Performance" awards for movies and shows aren't locked to actor and actress but mixed. This year the awards continues that tradition with Boseman nominated alongside performers like Timothée Chalamet for Call Me By Your Name, Ansel Elgort for Baby Driver, Daisy Ridley for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird.

This year the awards are being hosted by Tiffany Haddish, who will be doing double-duty considering she's nominated for two awards: Best Comedic Performance and Scene Stealer for her breakout role in Girl's Trip.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are always a mixed bag, and include... interesting categories like this year's Most Frightened Performance. Can't wait for the Oscars to start awarding THAT.
